"We are shocked, saddened and heartbroken," Taj, TJ and Taryll Jackson said on Monday, September 16.
Tito Jackson's three sons are mourning the loss of their father, who passed away at the age of 70. Taj, TJ, and Taryll expressed their profound grief, describing themselves as "shocked, saddened and heartbroken" in an emotional tribute to their father, who was a member of the renowned Jackson 5 band and the brother of Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson.
Siggy Jackson, Tito's nephew, previously confirmed Tito's death to PEOPLE. According to Entertainment Tonight (who was first to report the news), Tito died on Sunday, Sept. 15 after suffering an apparent heart attack.
In a joint post with their band 3T's Instagram account, Taj, TJ and Taryll announced with heavy hearts that their beloved father, Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Tito Jackson, has passed away. They expressed being shocked, saddened and heartbroken by this loss.
"Our father was an incredible man who cared about everyone and their well-being. Some of you may know him as Tito Jackson from the legendary Jackson 5, some may know him as 'Coach Tito' or some know him as 'Poppa T.' Nevertheless, he will be missed tremendously. It will forever be 'Tito Time' for us. Please remember to do what our father always preached and that is 'Love One Another.' We love you Pops."
The brothers signed off the note "Your boys," and added the hashtags, "#titojackson #titotime #loveoneanother." Tito managed his sons' band 3T and all three of them featured in the 2015 reality series The Jacksons: Next Generation. The Lifetime show followed the brothers as they tried to balance their music careers with family life and the pressures of being a Jackson.
