Vehicles Covered by Livery Service Commercial Auto Insurance
Commercial auto insurance safeguards a wide variety of vehicle types. Nearly any vehicle used in your operations can be covered, including:
What Does Commercial Auto Insurance Cover?
Bodily Injury Liability Coverage
This coverage provides payment in cases of bodily injury or death resulting from an accident for which you are at fault. It may also cover legal defense expenses, depending on the policy type.
Property Damage Liability Coverage
If your vehicle unintentionally damages another person’s vehicle or property, this coverage protects you. It can also include legal defense expenses based on your policy.
Medical Payments, No-Fault, or Personal Injury Coverage
This coverage pays for medical expenses incurred by employees or passengers in your vehicle, regardless of who is at fault in an accident.
Uninsured Motorist Coverage
This coverage pays for medical expenses or, in some cases, property damage caused by a hit-and-run driver or an uninsured driver. It may also include underinsured motorist coverage if the at-fault driver lacks sufficient insurance.
Comprehensive Physical Damage Coverage
Covers damage to your vehicles or trailers from non-collision incidents such as theft, vandalism, floods, fires, and other specified hazards.
Collision Coverage
Covers damage to your vehicles or trailers resulting from a collision with another vehicle or a single-car accident.
Should Your Livery Service Consider Small Business Auto Insurance?
Every livery service should have small business auto insurance to protect its fleet. We offer coverage tailored for these businesses and many others, ensuring your vehicles are safeguarded against various risks.
Differences Between Commercial Vehicle and Personal Auto Policies
Both commercial vehicle insurance and personal auto policies offer coverage for liability, collision, comprehensive, medical payments (or personal injury protection), and uninsured motorist exposures (sometimes underinsured as well). However, commercial auto insurance differs significantly from personal auto policies in terms of eligibility criteria, definitions, coverages, exclusions, and limits.

What’s Not Covered by Small Business Auto Insurance?
While small business auto insurance offers substantial financial protection and peace of mind, certain incidents are not covered by the policy. Common exclusions include:
- Intentional or Expected Property Damage or Injuries: Damage or injuries caused intentionally or expected to occur from your actions are not covered.
- Racing: Any damage or injuries resulting from racing activities are excluded.
- Mobile Equipment Operation: Liability related to operating mobile equipment such as forklifts or cranes is not covered.
- Injuries Covered Under Workers' Compensation: Injuries that are addressed by a workers’ compensation policy are not covered by commercial auto insurance.
- Hired and Non-Owned Vehicles: Only vehicles listed on the policy are covered. Temporary rental vehicles are covered if your listed vehicle is being repaired, serviced, or has been totaled. Replacement vehicles must be added to the policy within 30 days of purchase. Employee-owned or borrowed vehicles are not covered unless hired/non-owned coverage is added to a general liability or business owners policy (BOP).
This is not an exhaustive list of exclusions. Our insurance experts can provide more detailed information tailored to your specific needs.
